What is the construction and purpose of washer fluid reservoirs, pumps, and nozzles?

Washer fluid reservoirs, pumps, and nozzles are components of the system responsible for storing fluid, pumping it, and distributing it onto the windshield or headlights. A typical set consists of a reservoir, an electric pump, hoses, seals, and spray nozzles. These parts are mounted in various places in the vehicle, depending on the car's design and equipment. Their selection should take into account the OEM number, mounting points, and body version.

What are washer fluid reservoirs, pumps, and nozzles used for?

Washer fluid reservoirs, pumps, and nozzles are used to deliver cleaning fluid to the windshield surface at the right moment and at the correct pressure. This system supports wiper operation, improves visibility during rain, slush, and driving on dirty roads. Proper operation of these parts also affects the comfort of using the car and the effectiveness of cleaning the rear window or headlights, if the vehicle has such equipment.

What is the construction and function of a washer pump?

A washer pump is a small electric component mounted directly in the fluid reservoir or at its housing. It is used to draw fluid and pump it through hoses to the appropriate nozzles. Depending on the version, it may support the front windshield, rear window, or several circuits, so when selecting, you must compare the electrical connector, the number of outlets, and the method of seating in the rubber seal.

How to choose the right washer fluid reservoir for a specific car?

It is best to compare the OEM part number, the shape of the reservoir, and the placement of mounting points. It is also worth checking if the given version has a space for a fluid level sensor, one or two pumps, and whether the part is intended for a specific side of the engine compartment. The body version and vehicle equipment are also significant.

What symptoms indicate damage to washer nozzles or the pump?

Typical symptoms include no spray, a weak fluid stream, uneven spraying, or clearly audible pump operation without an effect on the windshield. The cause may be a clogged nozzle, a leaking hose, a damaged seal, or a failure of the pump itself. Therefore, before replacing, it is worth checking the entire fluid circuit, not just one element.

How to maintain washer fluid reservoirs, pumps, and nozzles after installation?

After installation, it is worth regularly checking the tightness of connections, nozzle patency, and the condition of fluid supply hoses. A good practice is to use appropriate seasonal fluid and periodically clean the nozzles of deposits. Thanks to this, the system maintains correct pressure and even spray on the windshield.
